How to Save the Earth from Pollution

Saving the Earth from pollution can't be achieved single-handedly but you can make an important contribution. Adopting a green lifestyle is an important first step. You can, for example, use chemical-free household products, recycle, and reduce your carbon footprint by switching to solar power. Giving practical or financial help to organizations that fight pollution, or helping to campaign for safe disposal of waste and toxins that threaten wildlife, are also effectives ways to help save the Earth from pollution.

Instructions

1. Give financial support to an environmental or conservation organization. Make a donation to an organization committed to fighting pollution. Conservation International is one organization that works to reduce air pollution from global greenhouse emissions by saving forests. It also works protect oceans from the effects of pollution, thus preserving marine life and protecting an ecosystem that regulates the Earth's climate and feeds billions of people.

2. Give your time and energy as a volunteer. Actively fighting pollution is rewarding because you get to see the results of your efforts. Simply organizing or taking part in a beach cleanup or recycling initiative through a local community group can make a difference. Alternatively, you could sign up as a volunteer with a conservation project in other parts of the world, working to preserve rainforests and helping communities to build a more sustainable environment.

3. Launch a petition. Petitions can be a powerful tool in persuading governments and environmental authorities to adopt more environmentally friendly practices, such as protecting marine life by limiting mercury pollution from coal burning power plants. You can start your own petition on a subject you feel passionate about at the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund website.

Ways to Save Mother Earth

In this time of climate change, you can do a lot to modify your lifestyle to help save mother earth. Little changes in what you purchase, how you get around and what you use can make a big difference in the overall state of the planet. When one person starts making changes in his lifestyle, he sets a good example for others in the community to emulate.

Reuse
Reuse reusable items in your daily life. Reusing items such as shopping bags and food containers, and donating items such as clothing, reduces the amount of waste. Excess waste piles up in landfills, taking up fertile land. Garbage seeps into the water supply, contaminating rivers and the ocean.

Recycle
Recycle your garbage. Separate paper, plastic, organics, Styrofoam and electronics. Recycling allows for proper disposal of environmentally hazardous products while saving useful materials such as paper and organics. Recycling reduces waste and the need for raw material consumption.

Don't Drive
Spend one day a week not driving. Instead walk, jog or bike to work or school. Spend time walking in the park, hiking or time at home. Driving causes toxic carbon dioxide admissions that pollute the air and destroy the ozone layer. Driving less also reduces the overall consumption of crude oil and gasoline.

Less Meat
Eat less meat. Meat-based diets require more land, water and energy to sustain. Animals need more space and use more resources to grow than plant foods. Factory farming pollutes the area around it, spreading chemicals and waste into nearby water supplies.

Purchase Earth Friendly Products
Purchase from only earth friendly companies that have little or no carbon footprint. Do not support companies that pollute the earth and that do not abide by environmental regulations. Buy items in bulk. Bulk purchasing requires less gas usage and less packaging material than buying in small amounts. Purchase items with minimal packaging to reduce waste. Purchasing local organic food cuts back on transportation costs and the use of hazardous pesticides.

Reduce
Reduce your overall energy use. Dry your clothes outside on a clothes line instead of using the dryer. Open the windows for fresh air instead of using the air conditioner. Air dry your dishes. Use less gasoline by driving at a slower steady rate. Take shorter showers and reduce the amount of water waste in your home and business. Seal windows and air leaks to improve insulation in your home.

Replenish the Earth
Plant trees around your home and garden. Planting trees helps keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, providing natural shade and insulation. New trees also help the earth renew and replenish the clean air supply. Planting trees around your home and in your community assists in making up for the thousands of trees being cut down every day around the world.
